About Thornbush Hill
My candle addiction started when we adopted our two incredibly adorable yet undoubtedly smelly beagles. As much as I love them, I wanted our home to carry a scent that is more akin to a luxury spa than Eau de wet dog!
I have always been a bit nerdy when it came to making and branding items and so I decided it was time to create my own candles. The dream was to produce a brand that looked great on the mantelpiece, where the scent was immediately noticeable, as well as being an affordable every day luxury. After a lot of doodling in endless notepads and tears over wicking (if you know, you know!!), Thornbush Hill was created! My husband still takes credit for the brand.. I suppose the business name was his idea, it was the English translation for our old street name, but the rest is my little creation, so I guess you'd call it a collaborative effort!
Each and every candle, wax melt and reed diffuser is blended in small batches and hand poured by myself at my little studio in Cowbridge. I've tried to adopt traditional artisan skills to ensure the highest quality and finish (I am CLP compliant and insured). To make my candles I use a vegetable blend wax, the finest fragrance oils and cotton core wicks for a cleaner burn. After curing they are ready for their finishing touches; trimming, buffing and my favourite bit, labelled and shipped off to your door.
The brand has grown since it was started back in 2016, as has my family! I now have the most amazing group of stockists, two little shops of my own and of course my lovely website. The candles are no longer made from my kitchen table, or my studio shed but a custom designed workshop in Cowbridge. I cannot wait to see what the new few years holds in store for Thornbush Hill. But one thing I do know, is its largely down to my amazing, supportive and loyal customers, beautiful friends and wonderful family!
I hope every time you light your favourite Thornbush Hill scent you are able to find your one small moment in time, to feel happy, grateful and content.
